Are you in?

At seven o' clock tonight I attended a meeting about food storage, now two hours later I am feeling pretty certain. Pretty certain that if an atomic bomb went off while Dave and I sleep tonight, and that if we aren't hit directly, we might as well be dead because we have nothing to sustain ourselves with.

So now that I am fully convinced that we are nowhere close to being prepared I am feeling motivated to get prepared. I have a long ways to go, a lot to learn, and a lot of intimidation to over come but I believe I can do it! If I can do it, you can too. If you haven't started yet, like me, let me hear you say your ready to start getting prepared.

Check out Anna's blog she has a ton of info.

You should check out my posts about Food Storage. We are going through the same thing too.

AND, if something happened, like a disaster, you better get a gun to protect your food storage... or a black bear to protect your beets. ONE OR THE OTHER. (j/k of course)

Let me just say, as the Food Storage Coordinator of our household, that food storage can be a bit overwhelming. I have to admit that I've changed my stance a bit; I'm not the die hard Mormon with rows and rows of food storage cans (although I have a bunch), it's just not how I view things now. Let me know how it goes.

I feel the same way! We have 72 hour kits and an abundance of flour, sugar and wheat.... but when it comes down to it, it is scary. What do you make with flour and sugar? And where do you store all of this??

Debby told me we can borrow her sealer anytime we want to store anything that will fit in the mylar bags. Let me know if you want to do something like that. The bags are easier to store than the cans and if you had some friends who wanted to do it as well it would work better because you have to buy the air packets in bags of 100.

We actually have well over 3 months worth of food in our pantry. I use 5 gallon buckets from home depot to store flour, sugar, rice, and powdered milk. I use those a lot so they get rotated really well. I keep a huge block of yeast in my fridge too. We have a bunch of cannery cans that we don't rotate through as well, but they have a much longer shelf life since they're sealed and all, so I don't feel too bad that they mostly just sit there.

It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, but it takes a lot of time. You can't just buy it all at once and that kind of frustrated me at first. I was like, I want to be prepared NOW. But, as it turns out, it's more like: I'll be prepared 2 years from now!
